NY Red Cross Assists Over 200 People Displaced by 7-Alarm Chinatown Fire
Relief workers from the American Red Cross in Greater New York opened a Reception Center at Middle School 131 at 100 Hester Street in Manhattan last night after a 7-alarm fire ripped though Chinatown, impacting a total of 11 buildings and damaging or destroying approximately 61 apartments. As hundreds of firefighters battled the blaze, 14 NY Red Cross responders provided 55 families (188 adults and 34 children) who took refuge at the Center with compassionate care in the form of food, beverages, cots, blankets, and health and mental-health services. The Chapter also deployed an Emergency Response Vehicle to the scene to take care of displaced residents’ and first responders’ immediate need for food and hydration. more…
