…was The Gobbler in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin. I remember driving past its remnants as a child in the 90′s (it went out of business and was slowly being torn down) and pondering over what exactly this magnificent structure once housed.

The Gobbler was a concept hotel and restaurant constructed in the groovy 60′s – the concept being: build a hotel that resembles an abstract turkey…from the future — so hip and modern! The hotel reeks top to bottom of delicious kitsch: shag rugs, ‘theme rooms,’ futuristic interior design etc. It’s like the Jetsons on crack mixed with a yardsale.

Fortunately, thanks to the Internet and James Lileks, the glory of The Gobbler has been capsulized for eternity.
