Riverboat Green
Did you know that since 1962, Chicago has dyed part of the Chicago River green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day?
Obviously, Care Bears are responsible for this crime against nature and humanity:
Or wait, maybe McDonalds and Leo Burnett?
Apparently, every day is St. Patty’s day in New York since I’m pretty sure the East River is a shade of acid green at all times.

NY Red Cross Assists Over 200 People Displaced by 7-Alarm Chinatown Fire
Relief workers from the American Red Cross in Greater New York opened a Reception Center at Middle School 131 at 100 Hester Street in Manhattan last night after a 7-alarm fire ripped though Chinatown, impacting a total of 11 buildings and damaging or destroying approximately 61 apartments. As hundreds of firefighters battled the blaze, 14 NY Red Cross responders provided 55 families (188 adults and 34 children) who took refuge at the Center with compassionate care in the form of food, beverages, cots, blankets, and health and mental-health services. The Chapter also deployed an Emergency Response Vehicle to the scene to take care of displaced residents’ and first responders’ immediate need for food and hydration. more…

Crafternoon Delight
The NY Public Library is hosting Crafternoons every few weeks. Come culture jam with me on Saturday—also, learn how to bind books and bask in the epic glow of Mike Perry, himself.

Time: 2:00 to 4:00pm
November’s Handmade: Crafternoon will be all about basic book making (both sewn bindings and not). Along with my co-host, Jessica Pigza, our special guest will be the amazing, prolific artist Mike Perry. He will share his book arts expertise, and we’ll have lots of supplies on hand to share so that you can make your own handmade book!
Location: Stephen A. Schwarzman Building , 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue, Margaret Liebman Berger Forum (Room #227, located in the northeast corner of the second floor)
